I like working with my hands and building things. Which turns into having a lot of hobbies. My most prolific hobby is woodworking. And that is what it is a hobby. I have no plans to turn this into a full time business.
Proof of having to many hobbies.
I don’t stay with one discipline. I never know what I want to do from day to day. From hand carving to chainsaw carving or turning or repurposing old wood. I also work with semiprecious stones, leather, guitars and amps and metal.
I guess you would call me “Old School” when it comes to my tools. Most of my equipment was handed down to me from my father. Some if it is even older than I am. All that new equipment on the internet looks so good and easier to use. Maybe I am to cheap? But I like the fact that I can keep this old equipment running.
I try not to waste anything. I also keep a lot of stuff I should get rid of, or so my wife says. I find most of the wood I use by keeping an eye out around town. If someone is having a tree removed I go and ask if I could have some. So when I make something I always etch the name of the town that the wood came from on the bottom of the piece. I use all my wood chips for mulch around the house and the sawdust goes into the compost pile. Any scrap pieces of wood I give to my neighbor so he can use them in his fire pit. Then I get the ashes back to put into the compost.
My hope is that I can make items that a person would enjoy having in their home.
